After many false starts we finally made it to Wicklow with a club trip. We started at Lynam's and went down to the picnic site in what was a short, scrappy but ultimately entertaining trip.
Niamh, Lucinda, Fiona, Ger, Martin, Andy and myself went down to Wicklow, where we were met by trip leader Steve Fahy. After a quick safety briefing we headed along the river. All had fun, particularly Fiona who had an altercation with a rock half way down. Unfortunately for her the rock came up trumps (as they usually do)
At the picnic site we had some throw rope practice before heading back to Lynam's for some well deserved tea and soup!
Yes that's right our Captain needs your help in deciding what colour to dye his amazing mane for the upcoming Varsities.
Faced with his toughest decision yet in his rein as Captain he has decided to turn to the masses and ask for their help. So come on people don't let him down and cast your vote now!!!
..and we've got loads planed for the few months ahead.
The new polo season will be starting and everyone will get a chance to enter that. River trips will move on to Wicklow which is much more fun and will allow people to work on their level 3 and 4 skills. We have a river safety course organised also.
The varsities are coming up in February too, which promises to be a great weekend where we'll (hopefully) gather much silverware to adorn the mantelpiece!
We'll be having another weekend trip away, (ala Achill style) and many more great night outs!
For those of you who didn't manage to make it out much in the first semester, don't worry, we'll be having plenty more stuff for beginners too! Pool sessions are on every Wednesday, meeting at the back of the hub for 6. just bring swimming gear, we've got all the rest.
For those of ye who have exams to do best of luck! Finally Congratulations to Sparky and Yvonne who got married over the holiday season!
Happy Christmas to all from DCU Canoe Club. Hope Santa's generous and don't over work yourselves for the exams!
Our first river trip of the year without any swims was attended by Eanna, Duff, Ger, Lucinda, Niamh and myself.
The day started without our trips officer and highly acclaimed trip report writer, Ciaran O'Reilly. This left us with only one car and a rather complicated shuttle arrangement. Fortunately for us Adrian Barber came to the rescue and gave us a hand, Thanks Aido!
Once we got to Lucan weir, It turned out that I had no deck, so after some abuse from people who thought I was a bit bonkers by going to paddle in December without a deck and only a pair of shorts to keep me warm, I managed to get a lift down to the ICU with some guy from Tulamore Canoe club and Conor Ryan lent me a deck there, thanks to both of them too!
